Description
Located south of Calvi, in the north-western side of the Bay of Sagone in Corsica, Port de Cargèse is a small marina, well-sheltered by a 200-metre outer breakwater oriented to North-East and an inner cliff signaled by lights. It offers 235 mooring places for boats up to 18 metres. The marina provides yachtsmen with water, electricity, weather forecast, a gas station, a supermarket and some restaurants in the surroudings.
On the northern side of the port, Cap Rossu and Punte Tuselli must be passed by keeping a distance of about 300 metres from the coast in order to avoid the numerous rocks, islets and shallows surrounding them. Then, you can continue to the stone jetty which encloses the harbour and approach by keeping a 150-metre distance south of the breakwater in order to avoid rocks. On the southern side, on the contrary, Cap de Feno in the Gulf of Sagone is the reference point before entering the marina.
You must enter it slowly heading West and, after passing the norther dock on the left, approach the gast station and wait for the Port Authority's instructions. The entrance in the marina is not recommended in case of strong west winds and at night.
Cargèse is a small village located on a promontory, originally built to host a Greek community at the time of Genoese domination. The modern part of the village extends over a main road where there are many hotels and restaurants. The old town, with its narrow alleys and light-coloured houses, remind the typical landscape on Greek islands.
Among the attractions, two churches and many white-sand beaches, such as Chiuni, Topiti and Menasina. Plage du Pero, located north of Cargese, is very popular and well-equipped for all those who want to rent a kajak or surfboards. Cargèse is a beautiful place where to enjoy boat trips and scuba diving. Moreover, the town is the starting point of a picturesque path which leads to Cinto mountain (2706 m), the highest mountain of the island.
