Description
The Calanque de Port Miou raises on the left of the city of Cassis and its harbour and it is considered as a good alternative to the summer overcrowding of the neighboring eastern port by yachtsmen sailing in the zone.
An excellent naturally sheltered anchorage, the cove has been recently equipped with wooden piers and buoys in order to organize the stay of the many boats transiting in the zone all the year, especially in summer. Wild mooring was indeed seriously damaging the surrounding environment.
The boats that moor in the outermost area of the cove can use the numerous buoys available. Boaters who, on the contrary, prefer mooring in the innermost side of the cove can benefit from the presence of some piers and cement quays where to dock and land.
Until a few years ago, mooring posts were managed by two yachting clubs based on the shores of the cove. But now, they are managed by the city council.
The cove also hosts the office of the local Port Authority.
The anchorage provides yachtsmen with all the main services, in addition to two systems for the collection of used oils and sewage.
Incredibly picturesque and therefore very appreciated by both tourists and yachtsmen transiting in the region, this cove extends over about a kilometre in length.
Furthermore, the Calanque de Port Miou awarded the prestigious "Pavillon Bleu” prize in 2015 for its high eco-friendly and quality standards.
The area hosts many food courts, some sailing schools and a restaurant that is easily accessible from the bay.
The only beach of the cove raises in its innermost part: it's small and sandy but not suitable for bathers.
The cove of Port Miou is part of the Parc National des Calanques, a protected reserve that was specifically created to preserve the different habitats and the delicate ecosystem of the local fauna and flora.
Just 6 and 13 miles away from Cassis and Marseille respectively, the Calanque de Port Miou is the ideal anchoring post for all those who want to enjoy a tour between Côte d'Azur and Côte Bleue.
